Toshiba Jet takes Canadian Computer Show visitors on "test flight" of state-of-the art mobile computers
Markham, Ontario (November 8, 1993)... Visitors to the Canadian Computer Show can take a test flight on the "Toshiba Jet", a replica of an Air Canada plane that's outfitted with a variety of Toshiba's notebooks. The show, which is Canada's largest exhibit of business technology, runs from November 22-25, at the Toronto International Centre.
"We designed the Toshiba Jet to replicate the business environment of today's mobile computer user. The jet demonstrates Toshiba's commitment to being at the leading edge of both mobile computing and strategic marketing," said Robert Grossman, vice president and general manager of Toshiba of Canada Ltd., Information Systems Group (ISG).
During each test-flight, which lasts approximately 20 minutes, an educational seminar is delivered on key issues for portable computer users or buyers, such as SL Enhanced microprocessor technology, Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) technology, and the latest portable display trends. Each seat in the plane is equipped with a Toshiba notebook computer, which visitors use to interact with the seminar presenter throughout the flight. The notebook computers are linked via a combination of wireless and non-wireless PCMCIA networking cards.
The Toshiba Jet is co-sponsored by Air Canada, who is providing an added incentive for computer show visitors to take a Toshiba test flight. All passengers will be eligible for a draw for two tickets to anywhere Air Canada flies. Show attendees visit the "Air Canada" personnel at the Flight Departure Desk next to the Toshiba Jet to book their test flight, which run every half hour.
In addition to the Toshiba Jet, which promises to be a highlightof this year's show, Toshiba is participating in two key Canadian Computer Show features -- the show conference program and the Home/Nomadic Office display.
Toshiba America's vice-president of new products, Hiroyuki Furukawa will be visiting from the Toshiba U.S. office in Irvine, CA., to be keynote speaker for the Canadian Computer Show conference program. His presentation "The Future of Transportable Computing" will provide a comprehensive overview of the burgeoning portable technology arena and valuable insights into Toshiba's own research and upcoming product developments. The presentation is at 9 a.m. on the first day of the show, November 22.
Continuing in the nomadic computing theme, Toshiba will also be exhibiting in the Maclean's Magazine display of various home and mobile offices. The Toshiba T4600C notebook computer, which features the Intel 486SL/33MHz processor and TFT active matrix colour display, will be part of the display in a high-end "Nomadic Office." Visitors to this booth will also be able to pick-up a copy of Maclean's Magazine which includes a feature report on operating a home office.
